Strategic Quality Management

María Calingo (1993) defined Strategic Quality Management (SQM) as “a state wherein the organisation’s total quality management (TQM) system is tightly interwoven with the strategy formulation process, thereby contributing to a sustainable competitive advantage.”

So, what does SQM mean in practice? It simply involves preparing a submission for the EFQM Excellence Model (Europe) or the Baldrige Award (USA) for your School, College or University and then action planning against each recommendation.
